James Franco wants to host Daytime Emmys

Film. Television. Soap opera. Broadway. The talent of James Franco apparently knows no limits. The Academy Award-nominated actor is in talks to appear opposite Nicole Kidman in a production of Sweet Bird of Youth on the Great White Way.

An aging, voracious movie star will meet her gigolo paramour in director David Cromer's production of Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth. And if Cromer has his way, the lead roles will be played by Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and James Franco. Though still hammering out negotiations, Kidman and Franco have voiced their commitments to portraying the roles of the declining actress Alexandra Del Lago and drifter Chance Wayne on Broadway this fall.

Not sure what a gigolo paramour is? Check out Sweet Bird of Youth, in which Franco's character, Chance Wayne, attempts to use Del Lago to break into Hollywood and recapture his youth. Williams' drama, first produced in 1959, has been performed around the world and transformed into television and film versions.

James Franco first debuted in daytime in the role of General Hospital's serial killer Franco, a recurring role originated in November 2009. For GH lovers longing for more of their demented artist, Franco will revisit Port Charles in February 2011. The two-episode appearance coincides with Franco's trip to Los Angeles to co-host the Oscars with Anne Hathaway, and it will spark a storyline to unfold later in the year.

Franco, up for an Oscar for 127 Hours, credited his intense memorization regime at GH with landing him the role. Despite movie offers enticing him to remain in Hollywood, Franco is seemingly excited about his future prospects on Broadway and on General Hospital. "'He certainly isn't doing our show for the money!'" exclaimed producer Phelps to TVGuide.
