Van Hansis series launches Kickstarter campaign for second season

Fans successfully funded season one of EastSiders, which stars Van Hansis, formerly Luke on As the World Turns, as one half of a gay couple struggling to stay together. The show is hoping to recreate that magic with a funding campaign for season two.

EastSiders, which stars Van Hansis (ex-Luke Snyder, ATWT), is gearing up for a second season and is turning to fans for help. The show's creators have started a Kickstarter campaign to allow fans to contribute to production costs for season two of the series.

EastSiders is a dark comedy about a gay couple, Cal and Thom, dealing with infidelity and "trying to stay together through drunken outbursts, double standards, and dirty deeds."

"I'm so excited to take the show back where it started: in the fans' hands, on Kickstarter. This is a very unique moment in time where audiences have the power to say what kind of stories they want to see told," said series creator Kit Williamson.

Season one of the show was successfully funded on Kickstarter in just four days. Since then, the show has made its cable broadcast debut as a feature film on LogoTV, won awards at both the Indie Series Awards and LA Web Fest, and received a Satellite Award nomination.

As Soap Central previously reported, the series also recently ventured into a new medium with a web comic continuing the story told in season one.

When viewers last saw Cal and Thom, the pair was uncertain of their future together. The Kickstarter page teases that the second season will ask the question "Is being in love enough of a reason to be together?"

Fans who back the series on Kickstarter can earn a variety of rewards, depending on the amount of their pledge, ranging from a digital download of the second season to invitations to the VIP premier of season two.

Van Hansis was nominated for three Daytime Emmys for his work as Luke Snyder on As the World Turns, a role he played from 2005 until the show ended in 2010. Hansis' most memorable stories as Luke included his coming out story and romances with Noah Mayer and Reid Oliver.
